New Resource: CGM Ordering Quick Reference Guide

February 27, 2025

To get groceries, you go to a grocery store. To get prescription medications, you go to a pharmacy. Knowing who supplies these items and where to obtain them is relatively simple. However, the supply and pick-up pipeline for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) devices can vary based on one's health insurance. This information is unclear even to physicians prescribing CGM, with many prescribers stuck with the question, "Where do I send the CGM order: Pharmacy or DME?" and left to guess and hope for the best.
We've created a one-page quick reference guide, CGM ORDERING: PHARMACY or DME, to support more efficient and effective CGM prescribing. The guide outlines CGM ordering by major Michigan insurance plans/payors, based on each plan's line of coverage. The goal of creating this tool is to save clinical time and get patients CGMs more quickly and efficiently.
Development of the tool was led by Heidi Diez, PharmD, MCT2D Program Co-Director. It is available in the MCT2D Resource Library.
