What is a uACR screening? Patient Explainer Video

In this brief 4-minute video, patients will learn what the urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR) test is and why it’s an important part of care for people with type 2 diabetes.
MCT2D nephrology lead, Mike Heung, MD, MS explains how this simple urine test can detect early signs of kidney damage - often before symptoms appear - and how it works alongside the eGFR blood test to give your care team a complete picture of kidney health. Viewers will also learn how to interpret their uACR results, how often the test should be done, and why leaving a urine sample during a primary care visit matters.
Dr. Heung is the MCT2D nephrology lead, a Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine, Program Director of Internal Medicine, and Associate Division Chief for Nephrology, at the University of Michigan Medical School.
