In May 2026, the learning community webinar featured Jennifer Wyckoff, MD, Director of the Endocrine Disorders in Pregnancy Program and the Medical Director for the Adult Diabetes Education Program at University of Michigan.
This meeting was a webinar presentation by Dr. Jennifer Wyckoff on gestational diabetes (GDM) for the MCT2D program. Dr. Wyckoff, a clinical professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan, discussed the scope and causes of GDM, screening and diagnostic criteria, treatment targets and goals, risks and treatment options, and postpartum care. She presented a case study of a patient with GDM and explained the differences between older and newer diagnostic criteria, emphasizing that insulin resistance increases during pregnancy starting around 20 weeks. The presentation covered treatment approaches including insulin therapy, the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), and dietary recommendations, while noting that metformin should be discontinued before the end of the first trimester. Dr. Wyckoff also addressed postpartum care importance and discussed the management of patients with a history of GDM, including recommendations for GLP-1 medications and the need for regular follow-up care.
